Mysuru is home to some of the most remarkable architecture in India. Many of the city’s heritage sites feature a blend of the Hindu and Islamic styles of architecture and art.
The Mysore Palace is one of the main attractions in the city. It is a multistoried building, which was built in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. This style is a combination of elements from Hindu, Muslim, Rajasthani, and Gothic architecture. The palace is adorned with towers, domes, arches and floral motifs that give it a distinctive character.
The Brindavan Gardens is another place of architectural beauty. This garden is graced with the work of renowned architect Robert Chisholm, who designed it in the 1930s. It features many canals, fountains, orchards, and gardens, set amidst the main palace. The garden is also full of terraced lawns, staircases, flower beds and shrubs.
The Somanathapura Temple and the Lalithamahal Palace are also known for their amazing architecture. The temple was built in the Dravidian style, with intricate stone carvings, and a pond surrounded by mythical figures on four sides. The Lalithamahal Palace is an Italian and Tudor-inspired structure that was once used as a residence for the royals.
